Role Overview:
As the Executive Manager – Projects at Iberdrola Australia, you will hold a pivotal executive role leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for the successful delivery of battery, wind, and solar PV capital projects across Australia. This high-profile position offers a unique opportunity to drive strategic initiatives, shape the future of renewable energy, and contribute significantly to Iberdrola's global mission of sustainability. Your primary focus will be to ensure these projects are delivered safely, within budget, and on schedule, while also building the necessary capabilities within your team for seamless project execution and handover to Iberdrola’s operations team.

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Projects team, setting ambitious yet achievable goals aligned with Iberdrola's overall mission and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and battery storage, from Financial Investment Decision (FID) through to Commercial Operation, ensuring the highest standards of project management excellence.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Development and Growth Services teams in the development of the project and major contracts prior to Financial Investment Decision.
  • Establish a Project Management Office (PMO) function, developing and implementing best-in-class project management methodologies, processes, and tools to standardise project delivery practices and drive operational excellence.
  • Build strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, regulatory agencies, industry partners, and community stakeholders, to foster collaboration and drive project success.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and Iberdrola’s policies and procedures.
  • Deliver projects in a manner that ensures they meet the Health and Safety, Compliance, Environment, Quality, and CAPEX targets consistent with the relevant business case.
  • Participate in stage gate reviews of projects in the feasibility phase.
  • Prepare and deliver concise and compelling executive-level reports and presentations to senior leadership, providing insights into project status, performance, and strategic implications.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop high-potential talent within the Projects team, fostering a culture of learning, growth, and professional development.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • +15 years’ experience in project delivery for large capital projects in the energy industry
  • Exceptional strategic vision and business acumen.
  • Deep understanding of construction contracts and management thereof.
  • Proven track record of driving operational excellence and delivering results in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams and senior executives.
  • Crisis management and conflict resolution expertise, with the ability to navigate challenging situations and drive positive outcomes.
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management at the executive level.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing and leading market-leading PMO functions.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Preference given to those with construction law or business qualifications
  • Experience in the development and construction of wind, PV and battery storage projects.
  • Post graduate qualifications in law or business is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in working with international project teams in diverse and often complex working environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Australian energy regulation as it relates to power projects in the National Electricity Market.
  • Extensive portfolio of industry contacts.
