The current strategy for Private Energy Partners (“PEP”) Australia is focussed on: renewable energy generation (solar, battery, wind); critical minerals development for the renewable transition; and industrial decarbonisation.
About the role

We are seeking a Financial Analyst to be based in Brisbane, working on exciting projects across solar, battery and solar PV manufacturing.  You will have responsibility of the full life cycle for detailed analysis and evaluation of the risk and return aspects of new projects.  You will have shared responsibility for the preparation of detailed investment papers and financial models consistent with PEP’s development process and to assist PEP to improve and refine such processes over time. 

You will be responsible for supporting the negotiation, evaluation, and structuring of new PEP development opportunities in the Australian market including preparation of materials for presentation to PEP senior management and Quinbrook’s Investment Committee.

Key responsibilities

  • Evaluating and conducting critical investment analysis of new projects and the ongoing monitoring, valuation and management of existing projects;
  • Building and running discounted cashflow (DCF) Financial Models. This spans all energy technologies including onshore wind, solar, and battery storage. You will review/critically analyse financial models prepared by various PEP team members;
  • Assessing counterparties from a financial and credit risk perspective, conducting economic research applied to various sectors of interest to PEP and developing Financial Models (3-statement financial models, DCF, and scenario analysis) for project sectors such as minerals processing, especially as part of the supply chain for renewable energy generation and storage modules, and for industrial processing and on-sold intermediate materials more generally;
  • Running valuation sensitivities based on differing assumptions with a particular focus on key risks and the analysis of available mitigation options and resulting impacts on investment returns·
  • Acting as a liaison and closely coordinating various third parties and counterparties to develop and explain model outputs and risk sensitivities;
  • Using market forecasting, market research and pricing subscription resources (such as Woodmac, Rystad or others) to prepare investment papers and valuation reports;
  • Conducting research of different power and industrial markets and monitoring key developments relevant to the PEP development strategies and summarising issues of interest in presentations to senior management;
  • Preparing presentation materials and detailed investment risk and return analysis as required by senior management from time to time;
  • Meeting, evaluating ,and coordinating with existing and potential development partners;
  • Working with the PEP team to structure transactions with counterparties, including financial, risk, and tax considerations;
  • Additional roles and duties as required by PEP

Desirable experience

  • Financial modelling expertise for the process industries, or be willing to learn rapidly
  • Experience in renewable energy project development
