Ltd., the world's largest producer of zinc, lead and silver and a company with a proud 25-year history in Australia through its Sun Metals Corporation Pty Ltd zinc refinery in Townsville. Established in January 2021, Ark Energy’s mandate is to decarbonise the energy supply of the Korea Zinc group starting with Sun Metals, which involves notoriously difficult-to-abate industry sectors including nonferrous metals refining and heavy haulage transport. In 2022 Ark Energy completed its friendly acquisition of Australian wind and solar developer Epuron, and now owns a growing portfolio of wind and solar energy projects.
About the role
The Head of Development is primarily responsible for the development of Ark Energy’s diversified renewable energy portfolio currently ~11GW of predominantly onshore wind but also solar and storage projects in Australia (QLD, NSW and TAS). As part of the Executive Leadership Team, this role is responsible for providing overall strategic direction and leadership for the Development Division, while ensuring consistency in our practices and approach.
Key Responsibilities

  1. Joint Development Agreements (JDA):
    • Support General Managers and teams in achieving milestones for seven JDA projects totalling ~2GW.
    • Maintain and strengthen relationships with JDA partners.
  2. Project Development:
    • Support teams in advancing projects in a 4GW development pipeline to completion.
    • Ensure development managers maintain budgets, schedules, risk management plans, and stakeholder engagement plans.
    • Assist in goal setting, resourcing, negotiations, conceptual design, approvals, and grid connection strategies.
  3. Portfolio Expansion:
    • Support the technical team in identifying and qualifying new sites for the 5GW investigation pipeline.
  4. Portfolio Prioritisation:
    • Coordinate with Directors and Heads of Division to prioritise projects and activities.
    • Identify and manage project risks.
    • Coordinate internal teams and external consultants.
  5. Governance:
    • Prepare internal approval papers for Ark Energy’s Investment Committee.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders.
    • Represent Ark Energy at conferences and events.
  7. Strategy:
    • Provide strategic insights on renewable energy development and emerging trends.
    • Develop and implement land acquisition strategies.
    • Maintain market awareness for potential impacts on Ark Energy.
  8. People, Performance & Culture:
    • Enhance Ark Energy’s employer value proposition.
    • Oversee goal setting, performance reviews, training, and professional development.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior staff.

Skills and Experience

  • Further training in areas such as accounting, finance, contracts, or consultation.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across Australia.
  • Strong track record in developing large, complex projects, with a preference for Australian wind projects.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies, regulations, and market trends.
  • Experience in mentoring and managing technical teams and consultants.
  • Experience in leading complex discussions or negotiations to maximise outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, environment, science, or business.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
  • 10 to 15+ years’ proven experience in developing renewable energy projects, preferably in at least two Australian jurisdictions.
