Position Title Senior Power System Engineer
Reports To Engineering Manager or Technical Director
Location Brisbane or Melbourne
Direct Reports Engineering study team(s)
Position Description To take technical responsibility and provide consulting services for projects assigned to the Electrical Engineering Team for EPEC Group, primarily in the fields of generation, high voltage transmission and distribution, as well as other technical areas as required to support the growth of the business.

  • Experienced in communicating and liaising with NSPs and AMEO essential.
  • Experienced in the delivery of multi-discipline complex high voltage grid connection projects with a background in an engineering design, build & commission operating environment.
  • Perform and direct activities for power system studies in PSS/E, PSCAD, Powerfactory and Hypersim modelling environments.
  • Manage the enquiry, application, registration, and/or design phases for both large energy user and/or renewable energy projects (e.g., HV Grid Connections, substation design, generating plant power system)
  • Coordinate activities with sub-consultants from time to time (from design commencement until design completion)
  • Ensure designs are reviewed adequately to ensure compliance to relevant Australian Standards, Statutory Requirements, and Client Specifications
  • Review, preparation, and delivery of engineering designs / documentation for allocated renewable energy projects
  • Project controls including QA, document control and the like expected for professional project delivery
  • Scoping and management of electrical sub-contractors and electrical procurement
  • Undertaking site inspections, providing advice, and preparing reports
  • Assisting with planning and scheduling tasks and activities within for the department
  • Developing cost effective engineering solutions
  • Providing engineering / technical advice to engineering team and other project staff involved in the execution of works
Key Responsibilities Technical Delivery

  • Lead the technical delivery of studies and projects within EPEC Group assigned to you, including understanding technical deliverables and taking responsibility for the completion of the deliverable.

Team Development

  • Assist EPEC Group in the development of a team focused on all aspects of the Owner and Developer side work for generation, high voltage transmission and distribution projects.
  • Undertake the required billable work and supervision and guidance of junior engineering, drafting and technician personnel.

Consulting Services
Develop and undertake billable consulting work in the Electrical Engineering area, including, but not limited to, the fields of Generation, High Voltage Transmission and Distribution.
Project Management

  • Assist the Technical Director during project delivery whilst considering time, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Liaise with clients of the EPEC Group to ensure that all services and tasks are completed to a high standard and to the satisfaction of the Client and Managing Directors.

Business Development

  • Support EPEC Group in pursuing new project opportunities as they arise, including preparing tender submissions and proposals with the assistance of other staff as required.
  • Support EPEC Group in winning work and exploring new project opportunities and Clients.


  • Ensure all EPEC Group works are managed safely and meeting legislative and client requirements.

Professional Development
Undertake professional development, to obtain Chartered Engineer status.
Undertake training as required to perform the duties assigned by management and consistent with the growth of the Electrical Engineering Team.

Quality Management
Apply the QMS to work processes.
Report issues / opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications Required  

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia
  • Post-graduate qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics an advantage
  • Registered Professional Engineer, Queensland desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia desirable
Experience Required  

  • Experienced in the delivery of multi-discipline complex high voltage grid connection projects with a background in an engineering design, build & commission operating environment
  • Strong HSEQ focus and leadership capability demonstrated by high levels of team passion and commitment for delivery and achieving strong results in areas of commercial performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships at all levels and successfully negotiate with and influence customer and senior level stakeholders in defining project delivery solutions and decisions in line with performance targets.
  • Demonstrated experience with power system analysis tools including PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Hypersim in RMS and EMT environments.
  • Demonstrated experience having completed generator performance standard studies compliant with schedule 5 of the national electricity rules.
