Contract Manager
Utility-Scale BESS | Melbourne Hybrid

Role Overview

Talesca is partnering with an International Renewables Asset Owner to appoint an experienced Contract Manager into its growing Australian project delivery team. This is a long-term contract opportunity supporting two BESS projects in New South Wales and one BESS project in Queensland, initially from pre-construction and progressing through delivery, commissioning and handover.
Reporting to the Contract Lead, you will work within an established commercial and legal team and partner closely with Development, Engineering, Procurement, Project Delivery, HSE and Finance. The role combines hands-on contract administration with broader strategic commercial input across a significant renewable energy portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer EPC, balance-of-plant, OEM, consultancy and major supply agreements across the project lifecycle.
  • Manage contractual correspondence, notices, registers, milestones, deliverables and formal communications.
  • Review payment applications and manage variations, change orders, claims and Extension of Time requests.
  • Support monthly cost forecasting, budget monitoring and commercial reporting.
  • Partner with Procurement through tender evaluation, negotiation, risk allocation and contract award.
  • Identify contractual and commercial risks, maintain the Contract Risk Register and oversee mitigation actions.
  • Coordinate contractor claims and prepare contractual responses with Legal and Project Delivery.
  • Support commercial negotiations and practical resolution of disputes and interface issues.
  • Strengthen contract templates, procedures, lessons learned and continuous improvement across the Australian business.
  • Provide broader strategic commercial input across new projects, rather than operating solely as a transactional administrator.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum seven years of contract or commercial management experience within construction, infrastructure, energy or renewables.
  • Demonstrated experience administering EPC or similarly complex major construction contracts.
  • Strong capability across claims, variations, EOTs, payment assessment, risk allocation and formal correspondence.
  • Working knowledge of Australian construction contracting; experience with bespoke EPC agreements is particularly relevant.
  • Solar PV, BESS, hybrid or broader renewable energy exposure is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience may come from either the EPC contractor side or the asset owner/developer side.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, written communication and commercial judgement.
  • Ability to manage several major contracts across multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Evidence of improving systems, processes, strategies or commercial outcomes throughout their career.

Why Join

  • Long-term contract opportunity of at least three years.
  • Three major utility-scale BESS projects across NSW and Queensland.
  • Influence commercial strategy from pre-construction through delivery.
  • Established Contract Lead, Commercial Manager and Legal support.
  • Hybrid arrangement with two days per week working from home.
  • Indicative rate of $1,100-$1,300 per day inclusive of superannuation.
  • Potential permanent pathway subject to future business plans and agreement
Working arrangement
  • The role is based in South Melbourne. Candidates must be able to attend the office three days per week and ideally commence within four weeks.
